Havana Club Ritual Cubano. This Havana Club release has been around since 2012. It was created for the Spanish market. In Spain light Cuban or Latin style rum is very popular.
Cuban Rums such as Ron Varadero, Ron Caney. Legendario and Ron Mulata are popular and common place in Spain. Some of these brands are relatively unheard of in Cuba. Some aren’t even sold in Cuba.
Ultimatum Sancti Spiritus 1999 Cuban Rum. Ultimatum are a relatively new bottler. Most of their products are coming out of Dutch retailers so I assume they are based somewhere around there. Ultimatum Rum seems to be an off-shoot of the Little Distiller.
Santiago de Cuba 12 Anos Extra Anejo is rumoured to have been Fidel Castro’s favourite rum. Which is interesting. A lot of the reasons why researching Cuban rum can be so complex is down to him and his revolution!
Ron Vigia are a Cuban rum brand. After that it all gets a bit more complicated. Once again trying to research a Cuban Rum is difficult – to be honest at times it gets pretty annoying. Nevertheless I’ve done my best and tried to patch together the limited information I can get about this Communist Export.
Ron Caney Anejo Centuria – another Cuban rum I picked up in Spain. Which seems to be the place to go if you want lower to mid level Cuban rum. At a very reasonable price.
Ron Montero is a rum producer from Motril, Spain. Ron Montero Gran Reserva is the premium end of their regular line up of rums. They also released a “Super Premium” rum to celebrate 50 years of rum making the “Ron Francisco Montero”.
Eight Republica sees the UK based rum company move away from the island of St Lucia for the first time. Since launching in 2006 Elements Eight have focused on a range of rums solely from St Lucia Distillers. Following a re-launch and re-design of the rums range in 2016 Carl Stephenson, the founder of Elements Eight began thinking about releasing rums from other countries/regions.
