Caroni 100% Trinidad Rum Aged 15 Years by Velier

Caroni Aged 15 Years Rum Review by the fat rum pirateCaroni Aged 15 Years is the older brother of the Aged 12 Years I reviewed earlier.  Both bottlings by Velier standards are relatively inexpensive.

Both rums are example of the “heavy” style of Caroni/Trinidad rum.  Angostura do not produce “heavy” style rum under their own banner. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Iceberg Gold Rum

imageIceberg is a rum which hails from Canada.  Well the brand does anyway, unsurprisingly the actual rum in the bottle is not Canadian.

It is in fact a Demerara rum which is blended with “12,000 year old Iceberg water”.  Yeah okay anything you say!  It is bottled by the Canadian Iceberg Vodka Company.  It has made its way into my home here in the UK via Vikingstad in Norway where AST import it from Canada. El Dorado Rare Collection – Versailles 2002

El Dorado Versailles Rare Collection rum review by the fat rum pirateEariler this year Demerara Distillers Limited announced some new rums in their El Dorado range.  Limited edition releases of rums from single stills. This one is from the Versailles (VSG) still.

It seems that Demerara Distillers have set out a very different direction for their US and European bottlings.  Last year the US were treated to a range of wine finished expressions of their flagship 15 Year Old rum.  The European market was treated instead to three Rare Collection rums.  This Versailles 2002 is one of them. Velier Diamond and Port Morant 1999 rum review by the fat rum pirateVelier Diamond and Port Mourant a rare “blend” of Demerara rum from the Italian super bottlers.

El Dorado Original Dark Rum

El Dorado Superior Dark Rum Review by the fat rum pirateEl Dorado have been hitting the headlines lately with their Rare Collection.  This Original Dark Rum is available in the Netherlands (where it is bottled) and it is also listed on the official El Dorado website.  However I’d never seen it in the UK until Beers of Europe had a stash of this and a white in a similar style bottle. Berrys’ Barbados Rum Aged 12 Years

Berry's Barbados Rum review by the fat rum pirateBerrys’ or Berrys’ Bros and Rudd to give them their full name are an English Independent bottler of wines and spirits.  They are also one of London’s leading wine and spirits retailers with the same premises at 3 St James Street London since 1698.

They have a wide and ever changing range of aged rums from all around the globe.  I was fortunate enough to pick up this rather dusty bottling from a few years ago at a very reasonable £39.95. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Jefferson’s 1785 Extra Fine Dark Rum

Jefferson's 1785 Dark Rum review by the fat rum pirateThe Jefferson family have a long and rich history in the rum world.  They were one of the first families to import sugar (and subsequently rum) to UK shores.  The family is preserved in history at the Rum Story attraction in Whitehaven, Cumbria.

I will spare you the history lesson and instead direct you to their website. I will instead focus on the rum under review rather than too much of the families history. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating
