Cachaca Indaiazinha

Cachaca Indaiazinha Rum Review by the fat rum pirateCachaca Indaiazinha. Today I continue my Cachaca journey with another cachaça from Salinas, Minas Gerais. For many the mecca of good artisanal cachaça. Once again we are looking at a spirit which in terms of presentation, seems quite “basic” and unspectacular.

This cachaça is very much in the same vein as Havana Aniso Santiago and Pirigibana. Long standing and well respected cachaça, much like Mount Gay XO or R.L Seale’s 10 Year Old from Barbadoas or Appleton 12 Year Old for a Jamaican standard, equivalent in the rum world. Cachaca Peruacu

Cachaca Peruacu Rum Review by the fat rum pirateCachaca Peruacu. The producers behind Cachaca Peruacu have been active since 1995 producing cachaça. However, the Cachaca Peruacu brand has only been in existence since 2012.

The name Peruacu is derived from the indigenous Tupi Guarani language and means “Big Cave”. The Cavernos do Peruacu National park, which is located in the North of Minas Gerais is home to more than 140 ancient caves. Cachaca Peruacu is produced in Januaria, Minas Gerais. One the real “heartlands” of cachaça. A bit like Barbados or Jamaica in cachaça terms. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Velho Alambique Ouro

Velho Alambique Ouro Rum Cachaca review by the fat rum pirateVelho Alambique Ouro is a cachaça from the town of Santa Tereza, Serra Gaucha in Rio Grande do Sul state, in Southern Brasil. Velho Alambique refers to “Old Alembic” or “Old Distillery” in English.

Finding information particularly background on this brand has proven a little tricky. They do have a website. Reserva 51 Unica Extra Premium American Oak

Reserva 51 Unica Extra Premium American OakReserva 51 Unica Extra Premium American Oak. Cachaca 51 are the market leaders of cachaça in Brasil (so you might as well say the world). Their standard Prata and Ouro cachaca’s are readily available, in Europe and the UK. I think they also may export to the US.

The Reserva 51 range is the companies more premium offerings. They have 3 cachacas in this series. They have this Reserva 51 Unica (aged in ex-bourbon casks), Reserva 51 Singular (ex-bourbon and Amburana wood) and a Reserva 51 Rara (ex-bourbon and ex-South American Wine Barrels). At the very top of the range they have a Reserva 51 Carvalho Americano (ex-bourbon) Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Casa Bucco Cachaca Envelhecida 6 Anos

Casa BuccCasa Bucco Cachaca Envelhecida 6 Anos review by the fat rum pirateCasa Bucco Cachaca Envelhecida 6 Anos. Casa Bucco has been producing Cachaca in Brasil since 1925. The family has even more history in spirits production in their native Italy producing Grappa. Once the family emigrated to Brasil they began producing cachaça.

Based in the Rio das Antas Valley, much of the sugarcane is harvested from the mountain areas. Like many of the cachacas I have reviewed the sugar cane is harvested organically. Due to the terroir it is noted that the sugar cane of Casa Bucco has a very high sugar content. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Ypioca Cinco Chaves

Ypioca Cinco Chaves cachaca rum review by the fat rum pirateYpioca Cinco Chaves. People in the UK may be familiar with the Ypioca brand. In time for the 2014 World Cup in Brasil, Sainsburys one of the countries leading supermarkets decided to stock some Brasillian Cachaca.

Their choice was Ypioca Prata – a white unaged cachaça, which comes in a weave covered bottle (similar to the old Zacapa bottlings) with a funny old man on the front. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating
