The Duchess Guyana Rum Aged 28 Years

The Duchess Guyana Aged 28 Years rum review by the fat rum pirateThe Duchess Guyana Rum Aged 28 Years. The Duchess are completing their “Flower Series” of rums, complete with bottle design by Dutch artist Hans Dillesse, with their oldest rum to date.

Here we have a 28 year old rum from Guyana. More specifically here we have a rum bottled in 1990 at the now defunct Enmore Distillery. The rum was distilled on the Versailles Wooden Pot Still which by 1990 had moved to Enmore, before ending up at the Diamond Distillery (DDL). Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Velho Alambique Cabreuva

Velho Alambique Carbreuva cachaca rum review by the fat rum pirateVelho Alambique Cabreuva. We have covered Velho Alambique’s cachaça previously on the site. I reviewed the brands Ouro cachaça which was aged in a blend of native Brasilian woods and American oak. For more information the review is here.

This particular cachaça is noted as being in Cabreuva. Which is the name of a tree which is commonly found in Central and South America. The Cabrueva tree has also given its name to a city in Brasil. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Four Bells Finest Old Navy Rum (1970’s)

Four Bells Finest Old Navy Rum review by the fat rum pirateFour Bells Finest Old Navy Rum. In order to celebrate Black Tot Day, I’ve cracked open another old miniature I had in the collection. Kept especially for days like this. Fortunately, in this instance I also have a full size (75cl) bottle in the collection as well.

I’ve done a bit of research on these bottlings and with the use of the old style UK proof and the newer metric ABV on the bottle, I have worked out this is likely to be from the 1970’s. Though sadly I can’t be much more exact. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Rum Exchange Jamaica St Catherine 5 Year Old Ruby Port Finish

Rum Exchange Jamaica St Catherine 5 Year Old Ruby Port Finish rum review by the fat rum pirateRum Exchange Jamaica St Catherine 5 Year Old Ruby Port Finish. This is the second of the two Jamaican rums which have recently been release by Austrian Independent bottler The Rum Exchange. As well as an online store, The Rum Exchange also have a Facebook page for all things rum.

I reviewed and thoroughly enjoyed their first Jamaican release from Hampden Estate so I am looking forward to trying this offering. Those of you with a bit of knowledge around where rum distilleries are, will probably have already worked out that this is a rum which hails from the The Worthy Park Estate. A producer which I have been championing for some time now. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Middas Reserva

Middas Reserva Cachaca rum review by the fat rum pirateMiddas Reserva. Few things in the rum and cachaça world surprise me. I think just about every gimmick has been tried by the numerous rum brands I have come across over the best 8 or so years. Step forward Middas Reserva cachaça.

Some of you may be familiar with the Swiss cinnamon schnapps Goldschlager – which distinguishes itself by having gold leaf floating in the mixture. To be fair in a clear schnapps the effect is quite good. In an aged cachaça? I’d need convincing. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating
