Legendario’s Elxir de Cuba is perhaps the most confusing bottle of rum in the world. Which in itself meant I had to get a hold of this Cuban curiosity for a review.
I picked the Legendario up on a visit to Spain, I had been curious about their rums for some time. I was especially curious about this 7 Year Old rum.
Santa Teresa Linaje was released back in 2012. Whether it was a worldwide release or not I’m not entirely sure.
Santa Teresa are the oldest producers of rum in Venezuela. An independent family group employing over 400 people. Santa Teresa is renowned for its community investment, including the Alcatraz project, the Revenga municipal projects of Aragua State, location of the Agroindustrial tourist and sports complex at Hacienda Santa Teresa.
Last night I was surprised to be told that the site had been nominated for an award. The Golden Rum Barrel Awards are a celebration of 10 years of the London UK Rumfest, ran by Global Rum Ambassador Ian A V Burrell.
The Golden Rum Barrel Awards celebrates the stars of the rum industry with a 3 course rum dinner at the Kensington Crowne Plaza Hotel. It’s the UK RumFest’s 10th show so this year’s awards will focus on 10 years of rum achievers.
Walter Hicks 125 Navy Rum hails from St Austell, Cornwall. Produced by St Austell Brewery who are perhaps better known for producing Tribute Cornish Pale Ale, Korev Cornish Lager alongside Bad Habit and Cardinal Syn real ales.
Products from the St Austell brewery are not only to be found in the South of England. The Nicholson pub chain operated by Mitchell and Butler stock a number of their ales and have exclusivity on a couple.
A 15 Year Old Port Mourant Rum from El Dorado released as part as their Rare Collection. The three rums in the Rare Collection were released simultaneously earlier this year.
It has been noted that the rums ages mirror three of El Dorado’s “Premium” rums. 12, 15 and 21 years old. I’m not sure whether it is entirely deliberate, nor am I totally sure if the stills used reflect the dominant rums used in each of El Dorado’s regular expressions. A spreadsheet of rums used in El Dorado rums was published a while back but has since been questioned. To be honest all are blends anyway so its academic really.
