Old Salt Rum

Old Salt Rum Review EnglandOld Salt Rum is the only rum fermented and distilled in England.  It’s triple distilled in small batches using a traditional copper still.  The rum seeks to evoke the taste of rum 200 years ago and has a Pirate theme to its rear label.

The rum is sealed with red wax with ES (English Spirit) emblazoned on the top of the bottle.  English Spirit is the name of the distillery which produces the rum.  The distillery is based in Cambridgeshire.  The rum is sealed (once you get into the wax) with a synthetic cork stopper.  The 50cl (not 70cl) bottle is taller and thinner than most.  It will require carefully handling as it will be quite easily knocked over.  The styling of the bottle, in keeping with the Pirate theme is very similar to Patron’s Pyrat Pistol rum.  The packaging of which is supposed to evoke the image of the firearms a Pirate would have used. The rum retails at around £25 per bottle. I’ve yet to find it in a store but its available very easily online in the UK (maybe less so abroad). Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Mount Gay Eclipse Barbados Rum

Mount Gay Rum Review Eclipse BarbadosAhh Mount Gay that “hilariously” named rum that often leads to a myriad of puerile double entendres and unfunny jokes.  Staple of Airport Duty Free’s and increasingly more and more present on the supermarket shelves in the UK.  More often than not discounted by a few pounds from its £18 price tag. OVD Old Vatted Demerara Rum

O.V.D, Old Vatted Demerara Rum Guyana Review
OVD – Old Vatted Demerara Rum.  Imported from Guyana to Scotland (something about dark rum seems to suit the cold climate and raging alcoholics) since 1838 by George Morton Limited.  I understand this is now owned by Wm Grant Ltd who produce a lot of the whisky sold in the UK supermarkets. La Mauny V.O. Rhum Vieux Agricole

La Mauny VO Rum Review Agricole RhumAhhh the French you could almost hate the entire nation for Michel Platini and his Anglophilic tendencies alone.  So the French being the French they couldn’t make r(h)um the English way they had to do it their way.

And so was born Rhum Agricole (Agricultural Rum) a more expensive way of making rum.  Agricole rum is made from fresh pressed sugar cane juice rather than molasses.  Due to the price of the various rhum agricole’s on offer I was expecting something quite spectacular.  However, from looking online it seemed quite overlooked and not a lot if it seemed to be getting on any notable award lists. Bundaberg Original UP Rum

Bundaberg Original Bundy Rum ReviewBundaberg or “Bundy” as its more popularly known in its native Australia is that particular nation’s most famous spirit drink.  It is available in a variety of guises and the Bundaberg company even makes its own Cola for its pre-mixed cans and bottles.

I’d seen this rum a lot when I was in Australia on holiday a few years back.  However, I wasn’t into rum back then so I never gave it a try. Since becoming more interested in rum I’d seen the rum online a few times at around £20-25.  I finally thought I’d give it a try. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating
