El Dorado Rare Collection Port Mourant 1999

El Dorado Rare Collection Port Mourant 1999 rum review by the fat rum pirateA 15 Year Old Port Mourant Rum from El Dorado released as part as their Rare Collection.  The three rums in the Rare Collection were released simultaneously earlier this year.

It has been noted that the rums ages mirror three of El Dorado’s “Premium” rums. 12, 15 and 21 years old.  I’m not sure whether it is entirely deliberate, nor am I totally sure if the stills used reflect the dominant rums used in each of El Dorado’s regular expressions.  A spreadsheet of rums used in El Dorado rums was published a while back but has since been questioned.  To be honest all are blends anyway so its academic really. Kill Devil Guyana 15 Year Old

Kill Devil Guyana 15 Year Old Rum review by the fat rum pirateBoth Kill Devil and rum from Guyana make regular appearances on these pages.  Up until now, not both in the same article.  Here we have another in the excellent line up of Single Cask rums from Hunter Laing’s rum offshoot.

Kill Devil Guyana is limited to only 276 bottles worldwide.  A 70cl bottle with a 46% ABV will set you back around £60. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Black Magic – Black Spiced

BLACK MAGIC Spced rum review by the fat rum pirateBlack Magic is a new Spiced rum to the UK market.  It is imported from the US by Hi Spirits Ltd and produced in Louisville, Kentucky by Sazerac.

Sazerac are better known for their Rye Whiskey. Which is produced at the Buffalo Trace Distillery, in Frankfort. Where the rum in this blend is distilled I do not know.  The website for Black Magic states only that the rum is a blend of young and aged rums. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Saint James Heritage

Saint James Heritage rum Review by the fat rum pirateSaint James Heritage rum.  It comes in their standard tall, rectangular bottle.  The name suggests some kind of retro rhum agricole, perhaps a throwback to times gone by.

Nope nothing of the sort.  The Martinique agricole producers haven’t even released an Agricole this time.  It’s actually a blend of rums from 6 different islands. It is a blend of both cane juice and molasses based r(h)ums. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Berrys’ Fijian Rum Aged 8 Years

Berrys' Fiji 8 Year Old Rum Review by the fat rum pirateA step into the familiar Berrys’ or Berry’s Bros & Rudd, alongside the unfamiliar in a Fijian rum.  Quite what to expect from an 8 Year Old Fijian rum I am not sure.

As it is coming from a well respected Independent bottler it should at the very least be an authentic style of rum so it should have some redeeming features. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Elements Eight – Fine Aged Vendome

Elements Eight Vendome Gold Rum Review by the fat rum pirateElements Eight Rum Company was founded back in 2006.  We recently conducted an interview with Carl Stephenson the owner of Elements Eight.  As a result of this we have been able to gain a lot of insight and information on Elements Eights rums.

Early in my own “Rum Journey” my wife bought me a bottle of Elements Eight Gold Rum.  I actually reviewed it a couple of years ago for the site.  As part of a re-branding Elements Eight have opted to rename their Gold Rum to something more distinctive and meaningful.  So it has been re-named Vendome.  I’m re-reviewing this as I’m curious to see if my opinion has changed much.  I’m assured by Carl that the rum is the same now as it was then.  I do know that my taste had changed slightly and my awareness has improved vastly since those days!
