El Dorado Rare Collection Port Mourant 1999

El Dorado Rare Collection Port Mourant 1999 rum review by the fat rum pirateA 15 Year Old Port Mourant Rum from El Dorado released as part as their Rare Collection.  The three rums in the Rare Collection were released simultaneously earlier this year.

It has been noted that the rums ages mirror three of El Dorado’s “Premium” rums. 12, 15 and 21 years old.  I’m not sure whether it is entirely deliberate, nor am I totally sure if the stills used reflect the dominant rums used in each of El Dorado’s regular expressions.  A spreadsheet of rums used in El Dorado rums was published a while back but has since been questioned.  To be honest all are blends anyway so its academic really. Bristol Classic Rum Enmore Still 1988

Bristol Classic Rum Enmore Still 1988 rum review by the fat rum pirateBristol Classic Rum are perhaps more famous for their red labelled Port Mo(u)rants.  This 1988 Enmore Still bottling seems to have flown under the radar. It has not attracted anywhere near as much attention.

As this Enmore Still rum was distilled in 1988.  It is likely that it was actually produced on the old Enmore Distillery site rather than Demerara Distiiilers Limited (DDL).  The record books tell me that Enmore Distillery did not cease production completely, until 1993. Plantation Guyana 2005

Plantation 2005 Guyana rum review by the fat rum pirateA 2005 Guyana vintage from Plantation distilled on the iconic Port Mourant pot still.

Plantation rum should be familiar to most readers.  They are not shy when it comes to promoting themselves.  Their Stiggins’ Fancy Pineapple Infused Rum, has been virtually impossible to ignore over the past couple of years. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Iceberg Gold Rum

imageIceberg is a rum which hails from Canada.  Well the brand does anyway, unsurprisingly the actual rum in the bottle is not Canadian.

It is in fact a Demerara rum which is blended with “12,000 year old Iceberg water”.  Yeah okay anything you say!  It is bottled by the Canadian Iceberg Vodka Company.  It has made its way into my home here in the UK via Vikingstad in Norway where AST import it from Canada. El Dorado Rare Collection – Versailles 2002

El Dorado Versailles Rare Collection rum review by the fat rum pirateEariler this year Demerara Distillers Limited announced some new rums in their El Dorado range.  Limited edition releases of rums from single stills. This one is from the Versailles (VSG) still.

It seems that Demerara Distillers have set out a very different direction for their US and European bottlings.  Last year the US were treated to a range of wine finished expressions of their flagship 15 Year Old rum.  The European market was treated instead to three Rare Collection rums.  This Versailles 2002 is one of them.
