Alnwick Rum

Alnwick Rum Spirit of Northumberland review by the Fat rum pirateThe Legendary Alnwick Rum no less.  The Spirit of Northumberland it proclaims.  Not much of a proclamation to make really.   I can’t think of a drink other than Newcastle Brown Ale the North East has produced, which is famous beyond its own counties borders.

We’re a funny little bunch up here in the North East of England.  When we aren’t watching our EPL soccer teams FC United of Newcastle and the Mackem Red and White Stripes, reading the Viz or eating Kebabs we are usually to be found boozing.  In actual fact we usually do most of these things pretty much at the same time……. El Dorado 21 Year Old Finest Demerara Rum – Special Reserve

El Dorado 21The jewel in the crown of Demerara Distillers Limited, certainly for those of modest means is the El Dorado 21 Year Old Finest Demerara rum.

The rum is made up of a blend of rums from Demerara Distillers world-famous stills, the Enmore (wooden Coffey still), the Versailles (single wooden pot still), and the Albion (Savalle still).  It is worth noting that all the rums in the El Dorado range boast differing components in their blend.  It is not a case of the same rum(s) being aged longer. Mekhong The Spirit of Thailand

Mekhong review the fat rum pirate rumMekhong The Spirit of Thailand.  I’m not sure how much translation plays a part in these things but from what I can gather this “rum” (I’ll explain later) is named after the river Mekong which runs through Thailand.  Yes I know the spelling isn’t the same.  I’m using what is on the bottle though it is often spelt Mekong as well. Plantation 3 Stars Artisanal Rum

Plantation 3 stars rum review by the fat rum piratePlantation 3 Stars is a white rum from the French based bottling giant Plantation .  The name is coined from the 3 “stars” of the Caribbean from which the rum is obtained.  Namely Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad.  As with most of the Plantation rums there is no age statement.

White rum hasn’t featured a great deal on the site so far.  This is something I am trying to address.  Whilst white rum is often seen as mixing rum for cocktails such as the Daiquiri and the Mojito, I have noted that this and the El Dorado 3 Years Cask Aged have received favourable reviews by other reviewers.
