Angostura No 1 Cask Collection Rum Review by the fat rum pirateBack in 2013 Angostura announced the launch of No.1.  The first in a new collection of limited edition “Premium” rums.

This the “first” Angostura No.1 (yes they have called subsequent releases No.1 as well confusingly) is part of the companies Cask Collection.  The collection is a range of Premium Rums aged in select barrels.  Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Iceberg Gold Rum

imageIceberg is a rum which hails from Canada.  Well the brand does anyway, unsurprisingly the actual rum in the bottle is not Canadian.

It is in fact a Demerara rum which is blended with “12,000 year old Iceberg water”.  Yeah okay anything you say!  It is bottled by the Canadian Iceberg Vodka Company.  It has made its way into my home here in the UK via Vikingstad in Norway where AST import it from Canada. Plantation Jamaica 2000

Plantation Jamaica 2000 rum review by the fat rum piratePlantation Rum should need little introduction.  Part of Cognac Ferrand, they finish and/or age rum they procure from all around the globe in cognac and other wine casks.

They also add “dosage” (a practice used in Cognac where sugar is added post distillation). Plantation tend to add around 16g/L on average. Their rums nearly always gain positive reviews and they have quite an extensive network of representatives and they are not afraid to promote the brand.  They have a large presence at all the more prestigious Rum Festivals and Competitions.  More often than not coming home with an array of awards. Old Port Rum

Old Port Rum Review by the fat rum pirateOld Port Imported East Indian Rum hails from the Amrut Distillery in Kambipura, Bangalore, India.

The Indian rum market is huge (India is huge).  Until very recently Old Monk was the biggest selling dark rum in India.  In more recent times McDowells No1 Rum has replaced Old Monk at the top of the charts.  For one reason or another Old Port seems to be more appreciated amongst rum lovers outside of India, than in its home country.
