S.M.W.S Cask No R11.11 Pushing the Frontiers of Funk. You can always rely on the S.M.W.S (Scotch Malt Whisky Society) to give their rums an interesting name. It’s quite common within the Scotch Whisky world in general, to find more detailed or more “floral” descriptions, than you might find in the Rum scene.

Rum of the Year 2021 – Shortlist. It’s that time of year again when I go over all my reviews of the previous year. The aim to select the shortlist to make up the Rum of the Year contenders.
Over the years I have built a few “rules” into the selection. Only one entry per producer, being one of them. I’ve tried to stick with a shortlist of 5 rums – so 5 rums from 5 different producers/brands. I also try and ensure that any Rum of the Year is still obtainable.
Black Tot Master Blender’s Reserve Rum 2021. As we close in on 2021, I felt it was right I put some time in and reviewed this rum. Not just because it will soon be 2022 and it will be “out of date”.
I’m actually making sure this is reviewed this year, so it has the chance to “compete” for the most prestigious Award in the Rum World………. That is of the course thefatrumpirate.com Rum of the Year!
Appleton Estate 2003 Hearts Collection. My only hope with this review is that I have enough to write about to flesh out another full review. I fear I may have covered quite a lot of ground with my previous review of the Appleton Estate 1984 Hearts Collection.
That said I’m sure I’ll find something to rattle on about. After all I’ve managed to review a whole host of Foursquare bottlings over the years and I (hope) I haven’t repeated myself too much.
Foursquare 2009. After a brief protest caused by an unfortunate lapse into something approaching O.C.D, I have decided to no longer add the “Rum Distillery” part to my reviews.
Foursquare themselves removed that part from the Exceptional Cask Series title a good while back. I think, possibly Foursquare 2007 was the first to do so. Though don’t quote me on that.
Dràm Mòr Single Cask Rum Clarendon Estate Aged 10 Years. The Dràm Mòr Group are a new bottler of Scotch Whisky and Rum, who hail from Bonny Scotland. Dumbarton to be exact. The group is headed up by husband and wife team Viktorija and Kenny Macdonald.
Dràm Mòr as well as being quite a fun little pun “dram more” means literally Big Whisky in Gaelic. The bottling I am reviewing today is a rum (obviously) and is one of 2 releases so far from the group.
