Pixan Rum de Mexico 8 Anos. Spirit that gives life is the translation from Mayan into English for Pixan (Pea-shan). As the title suggests this is a rum from Mexico.
To be more exact, Monterray in North East Mexico. It hails from the Destileria Espiritus del Norte (Northern Spirit Distillery). The rum is produced using molasses from the city of San Luis Potosi. Which is in central Mexico.
Holmes Cay Single Cask Rum Fiji 2004. Fiji has been on the “rum radar” recently with Plantation Rum releasing the newest addition to their Signature Blends in the shape of the “Isle of Fiji” which I reviewed earlier this month. It has also been revealed that Plantation have an agreement with South Pacific Distillery (the only active distillery on Fiji) to be the exclusive buyer of their rum.
Admiral’s Old J 151 Overproof Spiced Rum Tiki Fire. Sometime in the late noughties there was a brief craze for Sailor Jerry and Cola here in the UK. It was before I seriously drank rum in any shape of form. I confess I did take part. A little.
Now for some reason the UK version was a sweeter or more vanilla heavy variation on the “recipe” used by Sailor Jerry in the Rest of the World. Now despite the ongoing popularity of Sailor Jerry the producers decided to change the UK recipe in 2010, to that of the the rest of the world and stopped production of the UK recipe.
Santa Teresa Anejo Gran Reserva. The Santa Teresa brand hails from Venezuela. The Hacienda Santa Teresa is situated in the valleys of Aragua near the capital Caracas. The estate was founded way back in 1796.
Indeed, Santa Teresa’s flagship rum is name after the year the estate was founded. Santa Teresa 1796 is one of the mostly widely recognised “Premium” rums the world over. Bacardi took over distribution of that rum, but not the rest of the Santa Teresa line up in December 2016. This has enabled Santa Teresa 1796 to become available more widely, particularly in Travel Retail Duty Free.
An Interview with Nicholas Pullen – Top Beverages Limited.
Late last year I reviewed a CBD (Cannabidiol) Infused Spiced Rum from Top Beverages Limited. Co-owner Nicholas Pullen has kindly agreed to answer some questions I posed of him. At the moment here in the UK we are in a lockdown, courtesy of COVID-19.
The Real McCoy Aged 10 Years Limited Edition Rum. It’s proving quite dificult trying to keep pace with the output from the Foursquare Rum Distillery. Not content with various re-vamped releases from their existing portfolio such as higher ABV offerings of R L Seale’s, Doorly’s 3 Year Old and Doorly’s XO. Foursquare have also added further aged Doorly’s at 12 and 14 Years old and numerous (we are now up to release number 12) Exceptional Cask Series rums in the past 5 years alone.
Legendario Ron Dorado. Perhaps one of the most ironic things about the Legendario brand is that, arguably it’s most famous rum isn’t even a rum. The “seven year old” Elixir de Cuba is exactly that an Elixir.
