Skipper Rum

Skipper Rum Demerara Review Guyana

The best rum in this world” proclaims the 30′s style label.  Finest Old Demerara from Guyana.  This is a blend of 7 dark rums aged in Guyana for at least 3 years.  According to the bottle this is a naval style rum.  This rum (and seemingly the bottle) has been produced since 1930.

I bought this rum on a trip to Sainsburys.  It had  couple of quid off so was £18 rather than £20.  To be honest the bottle is a little uninspiring, which is why I had previously overlooked it.  It’s a standard entry-level metallic screw top bar bottle.  The labelling is a little kitsch but I don’t really think it will be doing its sales much good. Plantation Original Dark Rum – Overproof

Plantation Original Dark Rum Trinidad Review

I was originally going to get a bottle of Goslings Black Seal 151 rum (I’ve seen tried it in a miniature) but I noticed that one of the online stockists seemed to have made a mistake in pricing this (getting it mixed up with the Underpoof version I suspect) and thus I picked this up for £20 rather than around £33.  I love a bargain me! Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva

Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva Rum ReviewDiplomatico Reserva Exclusiva doesn’t it just roll of the tongue……. Well maybe the name might not but rum enthusiasts seem quite unanimous that the flavour of this rum is certainly something that your tongue will indeed savour. With such praise it was only a matter of time (or a bargain price) before I tried some.  I eventually ordered a Gift Pack version from the Whisky Exchange which included a large decorative box and two very nice Diplomatico labelled glencairn style glasses (one is in picture).  This came in at just under £50 which I felt was reasonable enough.  Good glasses aren’t cheap! XM VXO 7 Years Finest Caribbean Rum

XM VXO RumAt the time of buying this I hadn’t tried much in the way of Demerara Rum other than the supermarket “Navy” style rum’s.  So I thought I would give this a try.  It was very highly regarded on The Whisky Exchange (I get a lot of rum online due to the lack of variety and specialist shops up here in the North East). Chairman’s Reserve – The Forgotten Casks Finest St Lucia Rum

Chairmans Resrve The Fogotten CasksAnother entry from St Lucia Distillers and one with a bit of a story.  On May 2nd 2007 St. Lucia Distillers was struck by a major fire which destroyed their administrative and blending facility. Most of the distillery was spared but they suffered great problems with storage space for their casks. In the melee that followed the cellar master, Mr. Cyril Mangal, was forced to find space for ageing casks in the most unusual places. Having done so the cellar team had a memory lapse and forgot the casks that had been laid down. These casks were discovered recently. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating
