Captain Morgan White Rum

Captain Morgan White Rum review by the fat rum pirateI can almost feel the condemnation as I write.  A review of another of Diageo’s Captain Morgan offerings.  However, before you do so, please note this is a white rum not one of the many Spiced Variants which have given the Captain such a bad name in recent years.

A White Rum from the Captain Morgan brand has been available on and off for some time.  Dependent on the territories you have visited and/or your geographical location and time spent enjoying rum, you may have come across a White Captain rum in the past. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Rum of the Month August 2015

Wray and Nephew White Overproof Rum of the month fat rum pirateAs it is supposed to be British Summer Time, I thought I would make this months Rum of the Month a summer rum.  So I decided to go with this fantastic Overproof mixer.

As you can see Wray and Nephew White Overproof Rum is traditionally drank on Jamaica with Ting.  A Jamaican grapefruit soda and plenty of ice.  This a potent Overproof mixing rum but nonetheless a very good one.  To read the original review please click on the link or photo. Brugal Especial Extra Dry Rum

Brugal Especial Extra Dry Rum review by the fat rum pirateBrugal have made a concerted effort to break into the UK market over the past couple of years.  The rum has been re-branded and has even found itself in one or two of the nations supermarkets.  The rum is imported into the UK by The Erdington Group based in Glasgow, Scotland.

In its home country the politically separated island of Hispaniola, or more accurately the Dominican Republic (as opposed to Haiti) it is one of the three “B’s”.  The other big rum producers on the island being Bermudez and Barceló. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Banks 5 Island Blend Rum

Banks 5 Island Blend Rum review by the fat rum pirateBanks 5 Island Blend Rum hails from the hotbed of rum producers – Singapore.  It is bottled by the Joseph Banks Rums Corporation PTE, Ltd.  I’m not sure who Joseph Banks is but I bet there is a story behind him somewhere…….

Strangely the website does not have a story relating to some swashbuckling pirate or buccaneer from centuries ago.  It merely states that the rum is produced as a labour of love by the Joseph Banks Rum Company.  Further reading reveals that Joseph Banks was an 18th century explorer and botanist. Chairman’s Reserve White Label

Chairman's Reserve White Label Rum review by the fat rum pirateChairman’s Reserve White Label is the latest white rum up for review.  Regular readers will be aware of my fondness for the regular Chairman’s Reserve and other offerings from the excellent St Lucia Distillers.

St Lucia Distillers produce a fine range of blended pot and column still rums and I would thoroughly recommend anyone who is serious about authentic rum seeks out their offerings.  I’ve reviewed most of the rum that is available in the UK and decided to round off a recent round up of a few white rums with this offering. El Dorado Cask Aged 3 Years Demerara Rum

El Dorado 3 Year Demerara White Rum review by the fat rum pirateAn El Dorado Demerara White Rum aged for at least 3 years in oak casks, then double filtered through natural charcoal to remove the colour.  This pretty much rounds off my El Dorado collection.  The 3,5,12,15 and 21 have now been reviewed.  Time will tell if any of the Single Cask, Spiced or Overproof offerings ever get a review.  Time and Geography anyway as if I could actually get certain El Dorado rums I wouldn’t hesitate….. Plantation 3 Stars Artisanal Rum

Plantation 3 stars rum review by the fat rum piratePlantation 3 Stars is a white rum from the French based bottling giant Plantation .  The name is coined from the 3 “stars” of the Caribbean from which the rum is obtained.  Namely Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad.  As with most of the Plantation rums there is no age statement.

White rum hasn’t featured a great deal on the site so far.  This is something I am trying to address.  Whilst white rum is often seen as mixing rum for cocktails such as the Daiquiri and the Mojito, I have noted that this and the El Dorado 3 Years Cask Aged have received favourable reviews by other reviewers.
