El Dorado 15 Year Old Rum Review the fat rum pirate

EL Dorado 15 Rum Review

By luck rather than judgement (very questionable if you read my El Dorado 12 review) the “Special Reserve” became the first El Dorado rum I ever tried.  Having just received an expensive consignment of rum I happened to stroll into a well known discount store (Aldi) in a not so well known seaside town (Seaham Harbour).  I found on their shelves El Dorado 8 Year Old.  Obviously I immediately picked up a bottle and strode to the counter……… Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Bacardi Superior

Bacardi Superior White rum reviewThere’s probably not a lot to be said about Bacardi that hasn’t been said before.  Probably, on this blog and one of my other Bacardi reviews amongst other places.  It was on completing a review of Lemon Hart White Rum that I realised I hadn’t actually reviewed Bacardi Superior.  I’d had the pictures taken and reviewed a few other of Bacardi products but somehow I’d totally forgotten to review their flagship offering. Lemon Hart White Rum

Lemon Hart White Rum Demerara Guyana ReviewLemon Hart is a rum brand which as intrigued me for some time.  Talked about regularly on websites devoted to rum, yet strangely absent from the country where it is blended and bottled.  I’ve never come across a bottle of Lemon Hart rum in any store in the UK – ever.  Only very recently I notice that The Whisky Exchange have recently begun stocking their Dark rum and the 151 proof.  These rum’s seem very popular over the pond. Glen’s Dark Rum

Glens Dark Rum Review

Glen Catrine Distillers are probably not very well known outside of the UK.  The distillery is based in Catrine, Ayrshire, Scotland.  Glen’s are best known for there entry level vodka which competes somewhere in the void between supermarket vodka and Smirnoff, Russian Standard, Absolut etc.  The vodka is quite often bootlegged and a number of television programmes have warned consumers to be on the lookout for counterfeit Glen’s.  I have to say I hope the same problem hasn’t afflicted their Dark Rum as I bought this in a back street supermarket in Cyprus! Havana Club 7 Anos

Havana Club 7 Anos Rum ReviewHavana Club 7 Anos is the first in the Havana Club series in terms of price which is intended as a sipping rum.  The other Anejo’s and White Rum’s in the range are aimed entirely at mixing.  There is little to say about Havana Club that hasn’t been said before.  I think the rum is still largely unavailable in the US of A and I’m pretty sure Bacardi have even taken advantage of this to issue their own “Havana Club” brand of rum. Bermudez 1852 Aniversario

Bermudez Aniversario 1852 Rum Review Ron Bermudez is a Dominican rum producer and along with Brugal and Barceló make up the “big” 3 B’s of Dominican rum.  The Bermudez 1852 Aniversario is a rum which has been aged for 12 years.  It is bottled but once a year.  The rum is aged in select oak barrels and according to one website offering it for sale “is comparable to old brandy”.
