Velier Diamond and Port Mourant a rare “blend” of Demerara rum from the Italian super bottlers.
From the Coffey stills at DDL and the Port Mourant Double Wooden Pot Still. These rums were distilled in 1999 and blended in the barrel, before being bottled in July 2014. A total of 1,148 bottles of this rum were available. It is safe to say its pretty scarce now.
El Dorado have been hitting the headlines lately with their Rare Collection. This Original Dark Rum is available in the Netherlands (where it is bottled) and it is also listed on the official El Dorado website. However I’d never seen it in the UK until Beers of Europe had a stash of this and a white in a similar style bottle.
Berrys’ or Berrys’ Bros and Rudd to give them their full name are an English Independent bottler of wines and spirits. They are also one of London’s leading wine and spirits retailers with the same premises at 3 St James Street London since 1698.
They have a wide and ever changing range of aged rums from all around the globe. I was fortunate enough to pick up this rather dusty bottling from a few years ago at a very reasonable £39.95.
Ron Millonario XO hails from deepest darkest Peru. The brand Millonario has been around since 1950 but has only been available globally since 2004.
In 2004 Fabio Rossi (of Rum Nation) visited Peru and discovered the Hacienda Agrícola de Chiclayo where the rum is distilled. Ron Millonario XO is distilled on a Blair, Campbell and McLean column stills. There are two expressions in the Ron Millionario range the Solera 15 and this the XO.
Mezan are an independent bottler from the UK. They have featured quite regularly on this site and this is the second Jamaica Rum from Mezan we have reviewed.
Mezan Jamaica XO is, unlike all the other Mezan rums a blend rather than a Single Barrel/Cask offering. Not only is it a blend of rums it is also a blend of rums from different distilleries.
When “Premium” Rum is spoken about Velier really should be seen as the pinnacle if any such category really, truly exists. Especially when it comes to Demerara Rum from the Diamond Distillery.
With the luxury of being able to hand pick and barter for his own individual casks from the distillery Luca Gargano has his own unique foothold into Demerara Distillers huge stock of aged rums. Or he did………
Stiggins’ Fancy 1824 Recipe Pineapple Rum has finally hit UK shores. Plantation the makers of this rum have certainly created a real buzz around this and the sole current stockist of this rum have been overwhelmed with demand for this product.
Rum brand Plantation is owned by Maison/Cognac Ferrand and whilst they may not be quite in the same league as industry giants Bacardi International and Diageo they certainly know how to market their Plantation line of rums.
