Habitation Velier Hampden 2010 HLCF

Habitation Velier Hampden 2010 HLCF Rum Review by the fat rum pirateHabitation Velier have bottled a Pure Single Rum from the Hampden Estate in Jamaica. In actual fact they’ve now actually bottled three different expressions from the Hampden Estate.  I’m a little behind the times I’m afraid.

Released in 2016 this particular release is now particularly difficult to find.  It comes in the increasingly familiar Habitation Velier presentation box.  Which shows a drawing of each still the rum was distilled on.  It is also chock a block with detailed information on what the rum actually is.  No fairy stories here just cold hard facts. Single Cane Estate Rums – Worthy Park

Single Cane Estate Rum Worthy Park Rum review by the fat rum pirateSingle Cane Estate Rums – Worthy Park is actually a Bacardi International Brand. Acting almost like an independent bottler Bacardi, released a couple of rums (this and a Dominican Republic rum) into the Travel Retail market in 2015.

Worthy Park for those who aren’t familiar is a re-born rum distillery from Jamaica.  Forced to close in the nineteen sixties due by the Jamaican government the distillery began operating again in 2005.  A number of Worthy Park rums from 2005 and 2006 have been released onto the Independent market over the past couple of years. Cadenhead’s JMWP Worthy Park Distillery Aged 11 Years

Cadenhead's Jamaica Worthy Park JMWP Rum review by the fat rum pirate

This is a Jamaican Rum from Worthy Park – hence the JMWP (JaMaica Worthy Park).  Worthy Park only re-opened and began distilling rum again in 2005 so this is a bottling which comes from their first year of production.

Cadenhead’s have been bottling rum for quite some time now.  They release a number of rums at 46% ABV as part of their Green Label series.  For the more serious rum drinker they also have their Cask Strength Dated Distillation series.  Which this bottlings is a part of. Plantation O.F.T.D. – Old Fashioned Traditional Dark

Plantation O.F.T.D. OFTD Rum review by the fat rum piratePlantation O.F.T.D is another trip into history from the French producers.  Following on from the Stiggins’ Fancy Pineapple rum, O.F.T.D. which stands for Old Fashioned Traditional Dark is another attempt at recapturing the rum glories of old.

The rum seems to be a replcacement for the brands older Original Dark Overproof rum.  This means that both the Overproof and standard proof Original Dark rum have been given an overhaul.  Both rums were originally made up of rum from Trinidad.  I personally didn’t care much for either and went as far as suggesting the standard Original Dark was no better than supermarket rum such as Tesco’s Dark Rum – which is also a Trinidad “blend”.  As a result neither rum scored particularly highly. Duncan Taylor Single Cask Rum – Jamaica Long Pond Aged 15 Years (Cask 65)

Duncan Taylor Jamaica Long Pond 200 Single cask rum review by the fat rum pirateDuncan Taylor are a Whisky and Rum bottler from Aberdeen, Scotland.  They have been selling their rums in distinctive flask style bottles for a number of years now.

Like another Independent bottler, Mezan they keep a very similar presentation for each rum.  With them releasing so many rums, some differing only by a cask number it can make deciding on what to buy quite tricky! Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating
