E.S.A. Field Barbados White Rum

E.S.A. Field White Rum Review by the fat rum pirateE.S.A. Field Barbados White Rum. If you have not visited Barbados, you may not be familiar with this brand. You will however be familiar with the producer.

In 1906 the Rum Duty Act was introduced. It meant that distilleries could not sell their rum in quantities of less than 10 gallons. I don’t know the exact logic behind this. This meant that many of the general traders in Bridgetown became bottlers. Taking “bulk rum” from the various distilleries and blending it to their own preferences. Sometimes sadly with the use of a few additives other than rum and water. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Foursquare Rum Distillery Détente

Foursquare Rum Distillery Détente by the fat rum pirateFoursquare Rum Distillery Détente. As you will all know Détente is French and is used to refer to a relaxation of strained relations, through verbal communication. Well that’s what Wikipedia says anyway………

It is often used when referencing relationships between the USSR and the West during the Cold War. Bearing in mind the current relations between certain rum producers, this choice of name does seem a little odd. Whether this indicates a sign of a “relaxing” of hostilities, I am not so sure. I suspect it might not be! Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Foursquare Rum Distillery Diadem

Foursquare Rum Distillery Diadem Rum review by the fat rum pirateFoursquare Rum Distillery Diadem. For once, I am actually familiar with a term being used on one of these fancy named Foursquare bottlings. We’ll get round to that shortly.

A Diadem is actually a jewelled headband worn as a sign of sovereignty. In other words it something the Queen might put on, when she can’t be arsed with the full faff on, of sticking one of her crowns upon the Royal bonce. Or something like that. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Foursquare Rum Distillery 2008

Foursquare Rum Distillery 2008 Rum Review by the fat rum pirateFoursquare Rum Distillery 2008. There was a popular Pop Hit some years ago by the Boy/Girl Groups Steps called 5,6,7,8, which immediately came to mind when I first saw Foursquare 2008.

Quite why is a bit questionable, as although they have released a Foursquare 2005,2006,2007 and 2008 one of those was the “Black” (or should that be Golden) sheep of the family. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

The Real McCoy Aged 14 Years Limited Edition

The Real McCoy Aged 14 Years Limited Edition Rum review by the fat rum pirate The Real McCoy Aged 14 Years Limited Edition. It has been pretty difficult, make that nigh on impossible to keep track of every bottling that has hailed from Foursquare over the past few years. There are a huge variety of Official Bottlings (OB’s), Independent Bottlings (IB’s), collaborations between OB’s and IB’s and finally Rum Brands such as The Real McCoy working with Foursquare. Mount Gay Black Barrel Double Cask Blend

Mount Gay Black Barrel Double Cask Blend rum review by the fat rum pirateMount Gay Black Barrel Double Cask Blend. Until pretty recent times Mount Gay were a bit of a one trick pony. They have and likely always will make their money selling truckloads of their “entry level” Eclipse rums. In particular the “Gold” variant of Eclipse as the “White” or “Silver” can be quite tricky to find here in the UK. By tricky I mean pretty much impossible. I have only ever seen it for sale once in the EU and I bought (a rather overpriced) bottle as soon as I saw it. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating
