Duncan Taylor Uitvlugt 1998 Single Cask Rum

Duncan Duncan Taylor Rum Guyana Uitvlugt review by the fat rum pirateTaylor are an Independent bottler of whisky and rum from Scotland.  This is a Uitvlugt Demerara rum.  Uitvlugt is the name of a now defunct distillery. Some of the stills from this distillery are now housed at Demerara Distillers Limited or the Diamond Distillery if you prefer.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to determine the exact origin of all the Independently bottled Demerara/Guyana rums.  Not only are bottlers using non-standard terms. Some are using the old Distillery names, some the stills and others are just stating Diamond Distillery. There is also an issue with where the stills on which these rums were at the time of bottling. This is particularly confusing the older the rums are. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Kill Devil Trinidad 2003 – 13 Year Old

Kill Devil Trinidad 2003 rum review by the fat rum pirateAnother independent bottling from Kill Devil.  This time we are taking a trip to Trinidad.  This rum is one of the first releases by Kill Devil to be released at Cask Strength.

As the rum is bottled at Cask Strength the packaging has been tweaked slightly.  The lozenge label on the tube and on the bottle are red/purple in colour rather than gold as on the 46% ABV rums. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Mount Gay XO – Cask Strength

Mount Gay XO Cask Strength Rum Review by the fat rum pirateMount Gay established in 1703 report that they are the oldest rum brand in existence.  Which is arguable.  What cannot be argued is that they are one of the top producers of authentic rum in the Caribbean.

Alongside Eclipse – Mount Gay Extra Old (Mount Gay XO or even MGXO) is their most recognised and most respected rum.  A blend of Pot and Column molasses it is seen as a benchmark in the birth of true sipping rums. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating
