Diplomatico Distillery Collection No2 Barbet Rum

Diplomatico Distillery Collection No2 Barbet Rum Review by the fat rum pirateDiplomatico Distillery Collection No2 Barbet Rum. Late in 2017 Diplomatico released two new expressions. These expressiona are designed to highlight the different types of rum that Diplomatico can produce at their distillery.

I do feel these releases have been produced to try and appeal to those who perhaps are more critical of Diplomatico’s sweetened rums – such as the Reserva Exclusiva, Single Vintage releases and their highest priced rum the Ambassador. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Ron Cartavio XO 18 Anos

Ron Cartavio XO Rum Review by the fat rum pirateRon Cartavio XO is the top of the line for this Peruvian rum maker. It is now noted as being an 18 year old rum – it is no longer labelled as a Solera system rum. I reviewed their 12 “Year” Solera rum a while back and found it to be pretty average. Other than that my own experience of Peruvian rum has been with the frankly abominable Ron Millonario XO. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Scotch Malt Whisky Society R6.1 Spice at the Races

Scotch Malt Whisky Society Spice at the Races Rum Review by the fat rum pirate r6.1Scotch Malt Whisky Society R6.1 Spice at the Races. As you can guess the primary fuction of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society is not bottling rum. However, they have bottled a few over the years and released quite a few more late last year.

Now I’ll get one thing of my chest I am not overly keen on the frankly rather stupid names given to the rums – “Spice at the Races” is one of the better ones. “Paddingtons First Sip” anyone? Sadly, it reminds me of some of the pretentious and over the top tasting notes made by whisky commentators in their attempts to be noticed. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Worthy Park Single Estate Reserve

Worthy Park Single Estate Reserve Jamaica Rum Reivew by the fat rum pirateWorthy Park Single Estate Reserve. I’ve been waiting quite a while for this one. I’m a big fan of Worthy Park’s Rum-Bar range. Which include a White Overproof, a Gold rum and a very tasty Rum Cream.

Over the past couple of years Independent bottlers have been releasing quite a lot of rums from Worthy Park. In the main these have been Single Barrel bottlings that were mainly aged in a European climate.  They were sold young by Worthy Park. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Kill Devil Jamaica Hampden Distillery Aged 9 Years

KIll Devil Jamaica Hampden Estate Single Cask Rum Review by the fat rum pirate Kill Devil Jamaica Hampden Distillery. Hampden Distillery as is the trend in Jamaica is better known as Hampden Estate. This is largely because these distilleries did/do produce their own sugar cane on their vast estates. So they are not just simply a distillery.

Kill Devil have featured quite prominently on the site over the past two years. They began issuing 46% ABV single cask spirits in a similar fashion to bottlers such as Cadenhead’s and Samaroli. Like Cadenheads Kill Devil have now moved into Cask Strength bottlings. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

R.L. Seale’s Finest Barbados Rum (Export Proof 46%)

RL Seales 10 Year Old Rum Review by the fat rum pirateR.L. Seale’s Finest Barbados Rum.  Perhaps the most iconic and historically the most recognised product from the Foursquare Distillery.  Especially amongst its longer aged rums.

At one point this 10 year old rum was the oldest expression from the Foursquare Distillery available.  With its distinctive old fashioned “flask” (similar to what Pirate/Privateers used in the 17th century) shaped bottle it is a “cult classic” if you like. The fabulous aged Barbados rum in the “wonky” bottle. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating
