Lemon Hart Demerara Rum review by the fat rum pirateOver two centuries ago Lehmynn (“Lemon”) Hart was named an official purveyor of rum to the British Royal Navy, subsequently establishing the Lemon Hart Rum Company in London England in 1804.

Brugal Especial Extra Dry Rum

Brugal Especial Extra Dry Rum review by the fat rum pirateBrugal have made a concerted effort to break into the UK market over the past couple of years.  The rum has been re-branded and has even found itself in one or two of the nations supermarkets.  The rum is imported into the UK by The Erdington Group based in Glasgow, Scotland.

In its home country the politically separated island of Hispaniola, or more accurately the Dominican Republic (as opposed to Haiti) it is one of the three “B’s”.  The other big rum producers on the island being Bermudez and Barceló. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Plantation Nicaragua 2001 rum review by the fat rum piratePlantation’s line of rums are multi award winning and feature regularly at events around the world.  They are a very active, if relatively new player (if we trace rum back to 1703 certainly) in the rum world.

Plantation are to all intents and purposes an independent bottler.  However, such is their status and presence within the rum community they have perhaps passed over into the rum mainstream.  It should be remembered they do have the backing and are part of Cognac-Ferrand. Westerhall Estate Superb Light Rum

Westerhall Estate Superb Light Rum Review by the Fat Rum PirateWesterhall Estate is situated on the Caribbean Island of Grenada.  Since its inception it has existed in various guises.  Presently Westerhall Estate blend and bottle their range of 6 rums.

Mezan Jamaica 2003

Mezan Jamaica 2003 Monymusk rum reivew by the fat rum pirateMezan’s 2003 Jamaica Rum comes from the Monkymusk Distillery.  Monymusk is Jamaica’s oldest sugar and rum estate.  It has been producing rum for over 200 years and was named after Scottish Baronet Sir Archibald Grant’s estate in his home country.

Chairman’s Reserve White Label

St Lucia Distillers produce a fine range of blended pot and column still rums and I would thoroughly recommend anyone who is serious about authentic rum seeks out their offerings.  I’ve reviewed most of the rum that is available in the UK and decided to round off a recent round up of a few white rums with this offering. Inner Circle Traditional Pot Still Rum
