Bacardi Major Lazer Limited Edition

Bacardi Major Lazer Limited Edition rum review by the fat rum pirateBacardi Major Lazer. A Limited Edition rum from the Puerto Rican rum powerhouse. Prior to this review I had no idea who/what Major Lazer is/are. For some reason I pictured some kind of dancehall/reggae musician like Shaggy or Beanie Man. Quite why I have no real idea.

Major Lazer are (Wikipedia tells me) “an electronic music trio composed of record producer Diplo, and DJs Jillionaire and Walshy Fire. It’s music spans numerous genres, mixing reggae with dancehall, reggaeton, soca, house and moombahton (no clue either).” Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

A.H Riise XO Reserve Rum

AH Riise XO Rum Review by the fat rum pirateA.H Riise XO Reserve Rum.  A highly popular rum brand particular in Denmark.  I have previously reviewed A.H Riise’s 40% Navy Rum.  In that review I gave some information regarding the brands (so called) history etc.  The review is here.

For the purpose of this review I will just focus on this bottling.  I have taken much of this information from the official website. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Rum Nation Rare Rums Engenho Novo 2009 2017

Rum Nation Rare Rums Engenho Novo Small Batch Rum Review by the fat rum pirateRum Nation Rare Rums Engenho Novo. Rum Nation are an Italian Independent bottler. Their “Rare Rums” series is a new venture by them in 2017. They have released a number of rums in this series. They are noted as being “Small Batch” rather than Single Cask.

Engenho Novo is a new name to me in the rum world. Engenho Novo is actually a middle class suburb of Rio in Brasil but it is also the name of a spirits producer from the Portugese island of Madeira. Unfortunately the groups website is down at the moment and I have little information to go on. I presume that Engenho Novo comprises of the distillery which produces the William Hinton line of rums that have recently become more commerically available over here in the UK. Dictador Distillery Icon Reserve Aged 20 Years Solera System Rum

Dictador Distillery Icon Reserve Aged 20 Years Solera System Rum review by the fat rum pirateDictador Distillery Icon Reserve Aged 20 Years Solera System Rum.  Quite a mouthful but thats what they’ve put on the label.  Quite how Aged 20 Years and “Solera System Rum” works is anyones guess, however.

Dictador are a rum brand from Colombia. They also have lines of coffee, cigars and gin.  I’ve not been around the rum scene for that long but Dictador 12 was one of the first “premium” rums I bought.  I reviewed it in the early days of this blog. As was one of the aims of this blog I have learnt a great deal about rum since then.  I won’t revisit that review until I have completed this one.  I don’t recall being blown away by Dictador 12 though. Bacardi Reserva Limitada

Bacardi Reserva Limitada Rum Founders Reserve Rum Review by the fat rum pirateBacardi Reserva Limitada has long been Bacardi’s most “Premium” offering.  As seems to be the way with “Premium” rum producers rather than do anything remotely interesting, different or innovative they tend to just re-hash the same old thing.  Repeating the same things which initially gave them success.  Which kind of becomes a bit boring. Ron Cartavio Solera 12 Years

Ron Cartavio Solera 12 Rum Review by the fat rum piratRon Cartavio Solera 12 Years, hails like Paddington Bear from Peru. Whether it is deepest darkest Peru I am not quite sure but its definitely Peru.  Alongside Ron Cartavio sits Ron Millonario as Peru’s other notable rum.

Both rums are exported outside of Latin America and both Cartavio and Millonario are regularly available here in the UK.  I make no apologies for the title of this review – that is how the rum is labelled by the producers.  That is how I arrive at my titles, in an attempt to make things as clear as possible.  From a personal viewpoint I don’t think Solera 12 Years is clear in terms of the true age of this product.  Being honest its a crock of shit. Santiago de Cuba 12 Anos Extra Anejo

Ron Santiago de Cuba 12 Anos Extra Anejo Rum Review by the fat rum pirateSantiago de Cuba 12 Anos Extra Anejo is rumoured to have been Fidel Castro’s favourite rum. Which is interesting. A lot of the reasons why researching Cuban rum can be so complex is down to him and his revolution!

Which is about as political as I am ever likely to get on this blog.  Whether this was Castro’s favourite rum is an interesting aside but nothing more.  I dare say if I was the President I would have wanted something more luxurious. Maybe he just liked this one the best. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating
