Chairman's Reserve Master's Selection 2006 13 Year Old The Whisky Exchange Exclusive Rum Review by the fat rum pirateChairman’s Reserve Master’s Selection 2006 13 Year Old The Whisky Exchange Exclusive. I first noticed one of these Master’s Selection Chairman’s Reserve rums before Christmas 2019. I think it was exclusive bottling for a Belgian retailer, who’s name now escapes me.

Royal Mile Whiskies had one in stock and then I learnt that The Whisky Exchange were getting their own release, as well. Being a big fan of Chairman’s Reserve and St Lucia Distillers I have been looking forward to trying one of these rums. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

The Equiano Rum Co Afro-Caribbean Rum

The Equiano Rum Co. Afro-Caribbean Rum Review by the fat rum pirateThe Equiano Rum Co Afro-Caribbean Rum. I first came across this rum at the Boutique Rumfest in London. For those not familiar with London Rumfest, on a Friday afternoon they open up what they call the Boutique Rumfest.

This Rumfest is open to the trade and journalists, bloggers etc. It allows new brands to showcase and promote their rums to an audience in a less hectic manner than is usually the case on Saturday and Sunday. It’s really an ideal time to make contacts and speak with people who may be able to help smaller brands. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Plantation Jamaica 2009 Long Pond CRV – The Whisky Exchange Exclusive

Plantation Jamaica 2009 Long Pond CRV - The Whisky Exchange Exclusive Rum Review by the fat rum piratePlantation Jamaica 2009 Long Pond CRV – The Whisky Exchange Exclusive. It strikes me as quite fitting to be reviewing this rum, at this particular time. The Rum World is currently going to war. Well in parts of the Caribbean and Europe they are anyway.

Issues surrounding the Jamaica and Barbados GI’s have pretty came to a head. Even W.I.R.S.P.A. feeling the need to involve themselves. Tensions between Maison Ferrand (Plantation Rum) and other producers on the island have spilled out onto Social Media. Sides and battlelines have been drawn amongst distillers, bottlers, blenders, journalists, bloggers, enthusiasts and pretty much anyone else you can think of with an opinion on rums future. Some bridges have been burned irreparably I fear. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Worst Rum of the Year 2019 – Winner

Before I announce the Winner of the Rum of the Year 2019 I thought we would have a bit of fun. So here we have the other end of the Rum Spectrum.

First up, I’m not sure if the recipient of Worst Rum of the Year should really be called the winner? Maybe loser would work better? It has been suggested on numerous occasions over the past couple of years that I should gave an “award”, not only to the Best Rum of the Year but also the Worst Rum of the Year.
