Mount Gay Eclipse Navy Strength Barbados Rum. I don’t spend as much time reading about Rum as I used to. Two young children have partly seen to that! Due to this I was under the mis-conception that this new release from Mount Gay was only available in Barbados!
I’m not quite sure why really maybe because it is noted as “Limited Edition”? Also, from what little rum viewing I was able to do on the Internet over the past few months I only really saw people returning from Barbados showing off this rum. A couple of weeks ago I noticed, however that a number of people in my Facebook group “The UK Rum Club” were posting and talking about this rum……
Mount Gay Eclipse Heritage Blend Barbados Rum. This was one of the “first batch” of reviews that I published on this site back in March 2014, with an update to the review in 2015. Which might have involved the then new style bottle.
Mount Gay Black Barrel Double Cask Blend. Until pretty recent times Mount Gay were a bit of a one trick pony. They have and likely always will make their money selling truckloads of their “entry level” Eclipse rums. In particular the “Gold” variant of Eclipse as the “White” or “Silver” can be quite tricky to find here in the UK. By tricky I mean pretty much impossible. I have only ever seen it for sale once in the EU and I bought (a rather overpriced) bottle as soon as I saw it.
Mount Gay Select Blend of Matured Rums TWE Exclusive. TWE stands for The Whisky Exchange. Which is a physical and online store based in London, England. Headed up by business man and spirits enthusiast Sukhinder Singh. I’m a regular customer with them as they have one of the best selections of rum available in the UK.
Habitation Velier Last Ward 2007 is an intriguingly named rum in the popular series of Pure rums from Luca Gargano and co. Last Ward 2007 represents the Ward family. Who for over 100 years owned and ran the Mount Gay rum distillery in St Lucy, Barbados.
Mount Gilboa is a triple distilled Pot Still rum. This in itself is fairly unusual, I think. I’ve heard little about multiple distillation in rum, unlike Vodka for example. That’s not to say it doesn’t occur just that is rarely mentioned. Mount Gilboa is a product of Barbados and from the name and product design you could be mistaken into thinking you are getting a cheaper Mount Gay product or a copycat.
