The Duchess Guyana 27 Years Old Rum. The Duchess are back in 2021 with another release in their Tropical Hummingbirds series. These rums got a lot of positive reviews (not just from me) and comments in 2020. Here’s hoping Nils Van Rijn, the man behind the brand can continue his excellent barrel picks!

Compagnie des Indes Guyana Aged 29 Years Enmore Still. Compagnie des Indes are a French Independent bottler headed up by Florian Beuchet. They have been around for about 5-6 years now, if my memory serve me right. So they are one of the newer kids on the block.
Imports of the Compagnie des Indes range have been slow to the UK. We now get a few bottlings but it is much easier to find their Single Cask and Blended rums online in Europe. Compagnie des Indes bottle Single Casks of rum at Cask Strength and at the more pedestrian 40-46% range. They also have a range of blended rums which they produce in small batches to try and have a continuous (if slightly different) product available at a more accessible price point, particularly for those experimenting with rum.
Rum Exchange Guyana Port Mourant. Rum Exchange are a importer of fine spirits and are now an independent bottler of rum. This is their fourth release, following on from some very impressive rums from Jamaica and Belize. Today we are in familiar territory with an independently bottled Port Mourant rum from Guyana.
Hamilton 86 Ministry of Rum Collection Demerara River. Edward Hamilton is a well known figure in the rum world. His knowledge has been built up by sailing around the Caribbean islands and he has been an active writer, importer, rum-runner, brand owner and enthusiastic supporter of rum for a number of years. He runs the website and Facebook page Ministry of Rum, where has has gained the moniker Minister of Rum. He’s great friends with Capn Jimbo of the Rum Project.
Kill Devil Guyana Aged 11 Years – Port Ellen Finish. In all honesty, looking over my notes I thought I had reviewed more Guyanese rum from Kill Devil, than I actually have. It seems a lot of my Kill Devil reviews have been from Hampden Estate, Jamaica.
Anyway back to Guyana we are. This is another Single Cask and Cask Strength rum from Kill Devil. Kill Devil for those who aren’t in the know is the rum branch of Hunter Laing, who are more famous for their independent whisky bottlings.
The Duchess Guyana Rum Aged 28 Years. The Duchess are completing their “Flower Series” of rums, complete with bottle design by Dutch artist Hans Dillesse, with their oldest rum to date.
Here we have a 28 year old rum from Guyana. More specifically here we have a rum bottled in 1990 at the now defunct Enmore Distillery. The rum was distilled on the Versailles Wooden Pot Still which by 1990 had moved to Enmore, before ending up at the Diamond Distillery (DDL).
