Ultimatum Rum Selected Blend. Ultimatum Rum as I was recently informed by a very kind commentator and reader of the site is “Ultimatum rum is the rum series of the Dutch importer and independent bottler van Wees who is mainly known for it’s independent whisky releases under The Ultimate label. The Ultimatum is the rum variant of that label and stands for single cask rums from a variety of regions and styles.”

Old Jamaique Long Pond 1977. A rum older than me – just. From the Long Pond Distillery in Jamaica. A distillery which I have become increasingly interested in, over the past year or so.
Old Jamaique is a collaboration between Scottish bottling giant Ian MacLeod and the Belgian Independent bottler Corman-Collins.
Savanna Grand Arome Lontan. Savanna or Rhum Savanna are a rum producer from the Reunion Island. This particular Savanna bottling is a “Grand Arome”.
The Savanna distillery has been established since 1992 on the sugar refinery site of Bois Rouge, located in the North-East of the island of Reunion. It is one of the only ones in the world to market a rum from a very long fermentation (15 days) called “Grand Arome”.
Cadenhead’s BMC Epris Distillery is another offering from the Scottish Independent bottler. More famous for their numerous whisky bottlings Cadenhead’s regularly release rums. Many are your usual Demerara and Bajan offerings but they also bottle rum from more exotic locations such as Belize, Nicaragua and with this offering Brasil.
Santiago de Cuba 12 Anos Extra Anejo is rumoured to have been Fidel Castro’s favourite rum. Which is interesting. A lot of the reasons why researching Cuban rum can be so complex is down to him and his revolution!
Which is about as political as I am ever likely to get on this blog. Whether this was Castro’s favourite rum is an interesting aside but nothing more. I dare say if I was the President I would have wanted something more luxurious. Maybe he just liked this one the best.
