Another release
from Habitation Velier. This time we are seeing Velier partnering up with Worthy Park Estate in Jamaica for this release.
First up I will help with the title for this rum. Fortunately as well as providing us with a rather confusing and slightly obscure title, Velier have also provided us with extensive notes on the production and origin of this rum.
World’s End Rum Dark Spiced. Now if I was going from name alone I would assume that this Belgian Spiced Rum was after some of the Kraken’s market share. Perhaps another a Black Magic style knock off?
Well yes and no. For a start the rum certainly is like the Kraken – dark and indeed spiced. However, the presentation does not seek to mimic the Kraken. Even the illustrious Captain Morgan tried a similar knock off bottle for their Dark Spiced concoction.
Compagnie des Indes (French East India Company) are a relative newcomer to the Independent bottling scene. They have however, released a frightening amount of rums over the past 2 years. The brainchild of Florent Beuchet who has a long history in the Drinks Industry having been the brand manager for Banks Rum and also helping his father run a small absinthe distillery in his native France.
A Demerara rum from Whiskybroker. Whisky Broker seem to be a company that goes down the Ronseal route of promotion by doing “Exactly what it says on the tin”. So apologies for the slightly long title for this particular review. They have declined to give their first rum bottling a snappier title.
Karukera are an Agricole Rhum producer from Guadeloupe. Karukera is the original
Arawak (Caribbean Indan) name for Guadeloupe. Despite the very slick presentation (which caused me to overlook this brand) Karukera have been distilling and producing rhum since 189
5.
The Esperence distillery in Sainte Marie – “Certain Origins do not Deceive” is the companies tag line. Karukera have a very nice website unfortunately for me its all in French and resists translation. There is a lot of information there and I can pick out bits but not a lot unfortunately! In all honesty the relatively modern presentation of all the Karukera rhums make me wonder if all this history is entirely correct.
Smooth Ambler Revelation Rum hails from Greenbrier Country, West Virginia via Jamaica. Smooth Ambler Spirits both distill and independently bottle older spirits when they see a suitable opportunity.
Revelation Rum is an example of when an older rare spirit or spirits have become available. They are most famous for their range of Old Scout whiskies. This is the first rum they have bottled.
Barceló are on of the big three named rum producers of the Dominican Republic. I say named because Oliver & Oliver another big Dominican rum player produce a variety of rums under various different guises.
In 1929 Spaniard Julián Barceló arrived in Santo Domingo and founded Barceló & Co. In 1974, Don Julián Barceló handed over the reins to his nephew Miguel Barceló and in 1980 Ron Barceló Imperial was born.
