Chairman’s Reserve Master’s Selection 2006 13 Year Old The Whisky Exchange Exclusive

Chairman's Reserve Master's Selection 2006 13 Year Old The Whisky Exchange Exclusive Rum Review by the fat rum pirateChairman’s Reserve Master’s Selection 2006 13 Year Old The Whisky Exchange Exclusive. I first noticed one of these Master’s Selection Chairman’s Reserve rums before Christmas 2019. I think it was exclusive bottling for a Belgian retailer, who’s name now escapes me.

Royal Mile Whiskies had one in stock and then I learnt that The Whisky Exchange were getting their own release, as well. Being a big fan of Chairman’s Reserve and St Lucia Distillers I have been looking forward to trying one of these rums. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Elements Eight Fine Aged Platinum

Elements Eight Platinum rum review by the fat rum pirateElements Eight Fine Aged Platinum rum hails from the island of St Lucia.  Elements Eight is the brainchild of Carl Stephenson (whose past employers include Wray and Nephew).  Their rums have won numerous awards since they were launched back in 2006.

Platinum is a premium white rum.  Unlike many white rums it is actually an aged rum.  Aged up to 4 years in ex-Buffalo Trace Bourbon barrels.  It is then gently filtered to remove any colour. Leaving a very clean, crisp spirit behind.  Unlike many rums bottled by UK companies this has been entirely tropically aged. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Berrys’ St Lucia Rum Aged 14 Years

Berrys Bros and Rudd St Lucia Rum Aged 14 Years Rum review by the fat rum pirateBerrys’ or Berrys’ Bros and Rudd are an Independent bottler. We have featured their offerings on this site on a few occasions already.  This is the second Berrys’ St Lucia rum to be reviewed.

They bottle a wide variety of rums from familiar rum producing islands and nations.  Ocassionally they dip their toe in less well established islands, such as Fiji.  Here we have a rum from an island which is growing its reputation and becoming well respected in the rum world. 1931 St Lucia Distillers – 5th Edition

1931 ST LUCIA DISTILLERS 5TH EDITION 84 RUM REVIEW BY THE FAT RUM PIRATEThe fifth edition of the 1931 series which is now celebrating 84 years of Rum Making on the island of St Lucia.  Unfortunately, it is unlikely that the UK will see any of this stock as they have struggled to make enough to satisfy demand particularly in US.  I’m not going to give this issue anymore time – suffice to say this is the second rum producer in the past few months to have disappointed me by not making their product available in the UK.  I’m no longer interested in the reasons or excuses. St Lucia Distillers set to travel the UK

st lucia distillers the fat rum piratThis March and April, UK distributor Emporia Brands have put together a calendar of events involving its award-winning St Lucia Distillers range, after the initial success of last year’s programme.

I attended and throughly enjoyed one of these events last year in Newcastle.  Dave is a great host and the rum speaks for itself! My write up is here if you have any doubts about attending (your bar really should have some SLD rum in 2017!) Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Compagnie des Indes St Lucia 13 Years

compagnie des indes 13 years old st lucia rum review by the fat rum pirateAnother offering from Florent Beuchart’s Compagnie de Indes.  This time we are in familiar territory for site as we look at another bottling from St Lucia.

CDI have been gaining a good reputation over the past couple of years.  Stand out packaging – complete with a lot of information, that their target audience will want. Some clever marketing ploys with a few amusingly named/presented blended rums such as Boulet de Canon and the Oktoberfest rum released in Germany. Elements Eight – Fine Aged Vendome

Elements Eight Vendome Gold Rum Review by the fat rum pirateElements Eight Rum Company was founded back in 2006.  We recently conducted an interview with Carl Stephenson the owner of Elements Eight.  As a result of this we have been able to gain a lot of insight and information on Elements Eights rums.

Early in my own “Rum Journey” my wife bought me a bottle of Elements Eight Gold Rum.  I actually reviewed it a couple of years ago for the site.  As part of a re-branding Elements Eight have opted to rename their Gold Rum to something more distinctive and meaningful.  So it has been re-named Vendome.  I’m re-reviewing this as I’m curious to see if my opinion has changed much.  I’m assured by Carl that the rum is the same now as it was then.  I do know that my taste had changed slightly and my awareness has improved vastly since those days!
