The Pink Pigeon Single Estate Mauritian Vanilla Spiced Rum

The Pink Pigeon Single Estate Mauritian Vanilla Spiced RumThe Pink Pigeon Single Estate Mauritian Vanilla Spiced Rum. That’s quite a mouthful so for the purposes of this review we will review to it as I see it noted in bars etc as just Pink Pigeon or The Pink Pigeon.

Pink Pigeon hails form the Medine Distillery, Mauritius. The Medine Distillery has been gaining a very solid reputation for its Penny Blue range of Single Estate “Pure” rums. They are very proud of being a Single Estate Produce and they are equally clear on the fact they do not permit the use of additives in any of their rums. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Bumbu The Original

Bumbu The Original Rum Review by the fat rum pirateBumbu The Original. Bumbu is an Indonesian word for a blend of spices. I’m sure I have also seen terms such as Bombo and Bumbu, used to describe mixed drinks made by Pirates and other historical figures. These drinks have been composed of rum, water and varying spices.

This rum has proved to be very popular over the past couple of years. It has also proved to be very controversial. Bumbu The Original titles itself as The Craft Rum. They note that their rum, which is “hand crafted” using 8 different sugar cane varieties is aged for up to 15 years. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

John Frum’s Cargo Cult Spiced Rum

Cargo Cult Spiced Rum Review by the fat rum pirateJohn Frum’s Cargo Cult Spiced Rum. This is a Spiced Rum which has been making a few waves in the UK. This is partly due to it being available in Marks and Spencer. It is also available at the travelling “The Rum Festival” events – where it is proving very popular with consumers. Alnwick Rum Golden Spiced

Alnwick Rum Golden Spiced Rum Review by the fat rum pirateAlnwick Rum Golden Spiced. Alnwick Rum is a bit of an icon up here in the North East.  I reviewed the original Alnwick rum a couple of years back (a re-review if forthcoming as I do feel I got the original review wrong).

This is their Golden Spiced expression which was released in late 2015. Golden Spiced is a blend of the original Alnwick rum with a mixture of spices and flavours such as Black Pepper and Ginger. At the time of release they deliberately stated they were staying away from the vanilla flavour profile preferred by many other producers. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Don Q Oak Barrel Spiced

Don Q Oak Barrel Spiced Rum Review by the fat rum pirateDon Q Oak Barrel Spiced. Don Q are a rum producer from Puerto Rico. Availability of their rums has increased dramatically over the past couple of years.  Thanks, in no small part to the efforts of Global Rum Ambassador Alexx Mouzouris.  Don Q rum is now widely available in the UK and I would recommend trying their range to anyone interested in trying a light column distilled style of rum without additives.  Which is a bit of a rarity these days. Liberte Black Spiced Rum

Liberte Black Spiced Rum Review by the fat rum pirate Liberte Black Spiced Rum is a new entrant to the ever expanding Spiced Rum market. Liberte Black Spiced Rum is actually a supermarket “own brand”.  This one hails from German discount supermarket Lidl.

It has already received a bit of coverage in the press as perhaps being an alternative to the ever Popular “The Kraken”.  The Kraken pretty much has the “Dark Spiced” market sewn up.  For some reason despite the ongoing popularity of Morgan’s Spiced Gold – the Captain Morgan company have done little to promote or make available their Black Spiced Rum in the UK.  Despite making it pretty much a Kraken knock off in terms of appearance. The Infamous Rum No. 01

Infamous Rum No1 Rum Review by the fat rum pirateThe Infamous Rum No. 01 is a Spiced Rum which hails from Belgium.  This Spiced Rum has been created by Infamous Designs and Concepts who bill themselves as Private Label Creators.  As to be excepted from such an operation they have a website.

The brand unsurprisingly offers a very slick, modern appearance. Having said that they haven’t went down the story-telling route of other Spiced Rum brands.  They are actually giving more information on the actual rum than 99% of Spiced Rum Brands.  The Infamous Rum No. 01 is currently only available in limited quantities, mostly in Belgium and the Netherlands.  They are looking to upscale production to keep up with demand.
