To be more exact, Monterray in North East Mexico. It hails from the Destileria Espiritus del Norte (Northern Spirit Distillery). The rum is produced using molasses from the city of San Luis Potosi. Which is in central Mexico. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Bacardi Anejo Rum Review by the fat rum pirateBacardi Anejo. Aside from the usual Bacardi bottles you find in the Supermarket and Duty Free a trip to the continent (and further a field) can often throw up a few more variations from the Puerto Rican rum powerhouses.

I picked up this bottle of Bacardi Anejo in May 2019 on holiday in Salou. I think the 1 litre bottle was around €15. I’d not seen this particular expression before. El Ron Prohibido Habanero review by the fat rum pirateEl Ron Prohibido or Ron Habanero.  I’m really not quite sure quite how to introduce this rum.  The front of the bottle is written mostly in Spanish so that doesn’t really help.  The back of the bottle gives more clues as its all in English – Ron Prohibido is the registered Trade Mark on the back so I’ll go with that. Mocambo Single Barrel 15 Years

Mocambo 15 Year old Rum Review Single BarrelProduced in Mexico by Licores Veracruz.  The rum is bottled in small quantities and aged in white oak barrels (ex bourbon).  There is more information on the bottle. Unfortunately other than the attached label it is all in Spanish!

Licores Veracruz have been trading as a going concern for 55 years but have only been exporting their products for 11 of those years.  The Mocambo brand is imported into the United Kingdom by WSI LTD (Wine and Spirit International http://www.wineandspirit.com) who seem to import a number of unique products.  The Mocambo 15 years is marketed as a premium rum.
