William Hinton Rum 6 Anos

William Hinton Rum 6 Anos Rum review by the fat rum pirateWilliam Hinton Rum 6 Anos. William Hinton are a rum brand from the Portuguese island of Madeira. I’ve covered a few brands and rums from Madeira but not William Hinton. Which was a bit of a surprise when I came to review this particular rum.

I honestly thought I had reviewed at least one William Hinton rum! Anyway, lets give you a little bit of information on the William Hinton brand. Despite only recently coming to more global attention – perhaps due to the general rise in interest in Agricole Rhum, rum was been produced on Madeira for hundreds of years. Indeed the cultivation of Sugar Cane has been a key part of the islands economy for many years and has increased considerably in recent times. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Aguardente de Cana Rum Agricola da Madeira Calheta

Aguardente de Cana Rum Agricola da Madeira Calheta Rum Rhum Review by the fat rum pirateAguardente de Cana Rum Agricola da Madeira Calheta. I found this in a small liquor store in Funchal, Madeira last summer. I’d not seen or heard of the brand before so it was an immediate purchase.

I always figure when faced with such rums in far flung locations it’s worth picking a bottle up if the price is reasonable. You may never get the chance to try it again. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

That Boutique-y Rum Company O Reizinho Distillery Aged 3 Years

That Boutique-y Rum Company O Reizinho Distillery Aged 3 Years rum review by the fat rum pirateThat Boutique-y Rum Company O Reizinho Distillery Aged 3 Years. This is the second bottling from That Boutique-y Rum Company to hail from the O Reizinho Distillery on the Portuguese Island of Madeira. Which is of course the birthplace of the world famous sporting star Moises Henriques.

Maybe there is someone else a little more famous than him, some footballer or something. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Rum 970 Agricola de Madeira Reserva Ans 6 Anos

Rum 970 Agricola de Maderia Reserva Ans 6 Anos Rum review by the fat rum pirateRum 970 Agricola de Maderia Reserva Ans 6 Anos. This Agricole style rum was produced at the Engenhos do Norte (North Milling Company) Distillery, on the Portuguese island of Madeira. Which is (unsurprisingly) more famous for being the home of Madeira wine.

Rum 970 Agricola de Madeira Reserva Ans 6 Anos is, as mentioned already, produced in an agricole style from freshly pressed cane juice. The rums at Engenhos do Norte are, from what I gather produced on both Copper Pot and a Barbet Column stills. This rum (if I have translated the rear label correctly) is produced on a Copper Pot “Alembic” Still. The rum has been aged for a minimum of 6 years on Madeira. The ABV is a respectable 40%. This rum is one of Engenhos do Nortes continuous brands. I paid £40 for a 70cl bottle. Other than Oak Casks I am unsure as to what barrels this was aged in – I suspect ex-Madeira but could be completely wrong. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Rum Nation Ilha de Madeira – Limited Edition 2017

Rum Nation Ilha De Madeira Limited Edition 2017 review by the fat rum pirateRum Nation Ilha de Madeira. Rum Nation are an independent bottler that we have covered a couple of times already on this site. They have been operating since 1999. Besides releasing rum under the Rum Nation label they also market rums such as Ron Millonario and Reimonenq.

Rum Nation and the Portuguese island of Madeira have been in the “rum news” quite a bit lately. Over the past year rum Nation began releasing their “Rare Rums” series and the emergence of the William Hinton brand from Madeira has alerted people to “Madeira Rhum” as a thing. Rum Nation Rare Rums Engenho Novo 2009 2017

Rum Nation Rare Rums Engenho Novo Small Batch Rum Review by the fat rum pirateRum Nation Rare Rums Engenho Novo. Rum Nation are an Italian Independent bottler. Their “Rare Rums” series is a new venture by them in 2017. They have released a number of rums in this series. They are noted as being “Small Batch” rather than Single Cask.

Engenho Novo is a new name to me in the rum world. Engenho Novo is actually a middle class suburb of Rio in Brasil but it is also the name of a spirits producer from the Portugese island of Madeira. Unfortunately the groups website is down at the moment and I have little information to go on. I presume that Engenho Novo comprises of the distillery which produces the William Hinton line of rums that have recently become more commerically available over here in the UK.
