SBS Barbados 2008 Marsala Cask Rum Review by the fat rum pirateS.B.S – Single Barrel Selection Barbados 2008 Marsala Cask. Single Barrel Selection is part of the 1423 groups output. Formed in 2008 1423 are based in Denmark and are headed up by co-owners Thomas Vogensen, Parminder S Bhatia and Joshua Singh.

1423 seek out single casks of rum and also bottle blends of rum in their Companera range. Should you wish to learn more about 1423 they have a very informative website here. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Veritas White Blended Rum from Coffey Still and Pot Still

Veritas The Truth Foursquare Rum Distillery Review by the fat rum pirateVeritas – The Truth. Another lesson in Latin from Richard Seale of Foursquare Rum Distillery. Veritas is a White Blended rum from a Coffey Still and a Pot Still.

It is unique in that it is a blend of rums from the Coffey Column still and Pot Still at Foursquare and the Double Retort Pot Still rum at Hampden Estate, in Jamaica. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Foursquare Rum Distillery Dominus

Foursquare Rum Distillery Dominus Rum Review by the fat rum pirateFoursquare Dominus. Dominus is the Latin word for master or owner. The rum is noted as being “Master of the House” on the rear label. This convention continues the theme of similarly named rums from Foursquare such as Tryptych, Principia and Criterion. It is worth noting that such “fancy” names are quite common in the whisky world. The likes of Ardbeg are well-known for their curiously named bottlings. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Scotch Malt Whisky Society R6.1 Spice at the Races

Scotch Malt Whisky Society Spice at the Races Rum Review by the fat rum pirate r6.1Scotch Malt Whisky Society R6.1 Spice at the Races. As you can guess the primary fuction of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society is not bottling rum. However, they have bottled a few over the years and released quite a few more late last year.

Now I’ll get one thing of my chest I am not overly keen on the frankly rather stupid names given to the rums – “Spice at the Races” is one of the better ones. “Paddingtons First Sip” anyone? Sadly, it reminds me of some of the pretentious and over the top tasting notes made by whisky commentators in their attempts to be noticed. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

R.L. Seale’s Finest Barbados Rum (Export Proof 46%)

RL Seales 10 Year Old Rum Review by the fat rum pirateR.L. Seale’s Finest Barbados Rum.  Perhaps the most iconic and historically the most recognised product from the Foursquare Distillery.  Especially amongst its longer aged rums.

At one point this 10 year old rum was the oldest expression from the Foursquare Distillery available.  With its distinctive old fashioned “flask” (similar to what Pirate/Privateers used in the 17th century) shaped bottle it is a “cult classic” if you like. The fabulous aged Barbados rum in the “wonky” bottle. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Foursquare Rum Distillery Principia

Foursquare Rum Distillery Principia Rum review by the fat rum pirateFoursquare Rum Distilery Principia. Finding things to say about Foursquare Distillery and Richard Seale are becoming increasingly difficult. I’m not sure how many Foursquare releases I have reviewed over the past 3 or so years. It must be over 20 easily by now.

When I first got into rum, Foursquare were a respected distillery with a long history in producing classic Bajan rums, such as R L Seale’s and Doorly’s XO. There wasn’t a great deal of change to their portfolio, year in year out. That all changed in 2015 when Richard Seale revived the Exceptional Cask Series and began working more closely with Velier’s Luca Gargano. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating
