Cadenheads MPM DIamond Distillery 14 Years Old Rum Review by the fat rum pirateCadenhead’s MPM Diamond Distillery Aged 14 Years. Another bottling from Cadenheads to celebrate their 175th Anniversary. This time from the Diamond Distillery or DDL (Demerara Distillers Limited). Today we are looking at a rum which was produced on the famous Port Mourant Still. We know this from the MPM legend on the label – Main Port Mourant (or something like that). Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Skotlander Handcrafted Rum V 2,200 SØMIL

Skotlander Rum V 2,200 SØMIL Rum review by the fat rum pirateSkotlander Handcrafted Rum V 2,200 SØMIL. No your eyes do deceive you! I’m not reviewing the same rum as before. This is the 2,200 SØMIL release not the 1,400 SØMIL rum I reviewed last year. A SØMIL is a Nautical mile and this rum has been aged at sea.

Skotlander have been making waves (see what I did there) in the Danish rum scene. The rum scene in Denmark is actually pretty good especially in the capital Copenhagen. Famous rum names from Denmark include Johnny Drejer of Drecon.dk (the originator of the Hydrometer Tests), Mads Heitmann of Romhatten.dk, Henrik Kristofferson over at Rum Corner and Rum Festival regular Ingvar Thomsen. Not to mention a number of very enthusiastic Rum drinkers whom whilst not rum bloggers or “figureheads” are contributors in the various online rum forums etc. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Cachaca Fuzue

Cachaca Fuzue Rum Review by the fat rum piratCachaca Fuzue. I recently attended the UK Cachaca Festivals in Manchester. At the event I discovered a number of Cachaca’s that I had previously never seen nor heard of. Despite being the national spirit of Brasil, Cachaca has struggle to gain interest outside of its home country.

Cachaca is a sugar can spirit but it refuses to accept itself as rum. Some literature even suggests Cachaca pre-dates rum production. In my opinion Cachaca is best viewed as a separate category in much the same way you may view Rhum Agricole. It perhaps has most in common with Rhum Agricole in that it is produced from Sugar Cane Juice rather than Molasses but the unique woods used to age the Cachaca’s produce a very different spirit. One which should be judged in its own right. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Aluna Coconut Rum

Aluna Coconuf Rum Review by the fat rum pirateAluna Coconut Rum. A new addition to UK shelves in 2017 was Aluna Coconut Rum. For many Koko Kanu offers a more respectable alternative to the perennial pub and club favourite Malibu in the battle of the “coco-rum” wars.

Much like Malibu, Aluna Coconut Rum technically isn’t a rum under EU law. It is bottled at 35% ABV. Standard Malibu is 21% ABV in the UK. It is really a rum based spirit drink. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Rum Nation Rare Rums Worthy Park 2006 2017

Rum Nation Rare Rums Worthy Park 2006 2017 rum review by the fat rum pirateRum Nation Rare Rums Worthy Park. This is a rum from the second fully operational year for Worthy Park since the distillery was relaunched. The Rum Nation bottlings don’t seem to be as easy to get in the UK as they are in most of mainland Europe. I’m not really sure why this is the case as they would be pretty popular. This added to their fondness for a touch of “dosage” means I don’t review a great deal of their products. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating

Kintra Hampden Jamaica 8 Year Old

Kintra Hampden Jamaica 8 Year Old Rum Review by the fat rum pirateKintra Hampden Jamaica 8 Year Old. Kintra are a relatively new European Independent bottler. They began as so many do by bottling whiskies before moving, more recently onto rums.

Kintra hail from the Netherlands (which will be handy for the huge rum broker E.A Scheer). Most of their sales are racked up there. They also export to most of mainland Europe, Hong Kong and Japan. Read more to see the fatrumpirate rating
