Bumbu XO Rum. Probably the most criticised “rum” over the past couple of years amongst more “serious” rum enthusiasts, has been Bumbu The Original.
However, amongst less serious rum imbibers, Bumbu The Original is hugely popular. Any drink which is stocked by supermarkets, for any length of time will be selling a fair few units. Bumbu The Original, I dare say is selling more than most.
Santos Dumont XO Rum. This rum is marketed as a Brasilian rum, rather than cachaca. Quite why this was the case I was initially unsure about. Fortunately, some research made some things a lot clearer. Whilst at the same time telling me very little…..
First up who might this Santos Dumont character be? Well, he was a World Famous Aviation pioneer, Noble Man, Celebrity and Style Icon, back in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. His father Henri Dumont was known as the Coffee King of Brasil. As well as this rum there is also an Elixir released by the Santos Dumont brand.
Ron de El Salvador Cihuatan 12 Solera Reserva Especial. We are delving back into some Latin Style rum. This time with some rum from a country I haven’t covered before El Salvador. The Ron Cihuatan brand have been around in Europe for a few years now. Being honest, these type of rums are not something I actively seek anymore.
Ron Zacapa Centenario Sistema Solera 23 Etiqueta Negra. This is a rum which you will probably struggle to find in this particular form now. It was a limited edition release primarly for the German and Italian market. It was released to replace the “Black Label” Ron Zacapa 23 and has itself been superseded by Edicion Negra.
Bacardi Anejo. Aside from the usual Bacardi bottles you find in the Supermarket and Duty Free a trip to the continent (and further a field) can often throw up a few more variations from the Puerto Rican rum powerhouses.
I picked up this bottle of Bacardi Anejo in May 2019 on holiday in Salou. I think the 1 litre bottle was around €15. I’d not seen this particular expression before. I could tell from the presentation (and the dustiness) of the bottle that it was not a “new” release.
Distillerie de Paris Rhum Galabe 97. This is the first distillery to open in Paris for over 100 years. The distillery is ran by the Julhes Brothers, Sebastien and Nicolas. The distillery produces Gin, Vodka and this Rhum Galabe which I am reviewing for you today.
Rhum Galabe is not some fancy brand name. Galabe is actually a traditional form of pressed sugar cane juice, which is produced on the Reunion Island. The resulting solid product is often eaten as candy there. It is the product that is used to produce this rhum. I am not 100% how this qualifies 100% as a rhum but it is for sale as a rhum/rum so I will review it as such.
